RICHARD BATER

Richard started The Business Guru having seen that in South Africa we have a large number of small and medium sized enterprises, many not getting world quality advice so that they develop their business in the manner they want. From personal experience many accountants does the work required from them but never go the extra step and inform their clients ways in which they can improve what they do.

Richard's background is as a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants(ACCA), which is the global body for professional accountants.

The ACCA is represented throughout the world (170 countries), including South Africa and has 122 000 members (325 000 students) worldwide and has been around for over 100 years.

Richard trained as an Accountant in public practice in the UK (started in 1989) and firstly became a partner and then his own successful accountancy practice (in 1995) in the UK. Richard started this business from scratch, learnt that not all clients (or customers) are right for your business. He disposed of certain clients, concentrated on the right clients and more than quadrupled the business in three years.

Richard loved dealing with all sorts of small medium sized businesses and always wanted to spend more time with clients rather than doing what all accountants do, that is compliance work, for what seems to be work on behalf of the tax man and government.

Richard has had extensive experience in helping others and in his own businesses which is great news, especially as he is now specialising in what he loves to do, and that is helping clients manage and grow their businesses.
