It has become increasingly important to ensure submission of an accurate and complete tax return for individuals timeously. Tax law and the application of this on individuals has made it much more important to ensure that the person completing the return has the required skills and knowledge.

IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE

SARS has become very efficient over the last few years, with increased access to sources of information and extended powers available to them. SARS has also become more stringent on the quality and completeness of information on returns.

Incomplete or inaccurate returns could lead to it merely being send back to the taxpayer with possible penalty and interest implications. Even just submitting a return late will have penalty implications and could lead to a summons being issued. This could also lead (and nowadays very often does) to an individual having to appear in court as oppose to just paying and admission of guilt fee.

Be warned SARS has no mercy anymore.

It has thus become important for an individual to ensure all information is included on a return in the correct format and that it is submitted on time.
